Ocean Network Express Celebrates 5th Anniversary

Singapore, 9 June 2023 – Ocean Network Express (ONE) celebrated its 5th anniversary at its ONE Green office in Singapore on 7 June.

There were more than 150 guests at the anniversary celebration, including government officials, valued partners, and customers. As part of the celebration, a traditional Japanese ceremony, called Kagami-Biraki, was performed. In this ceremony, a sake barrel is opened with a wooden mallet. It is believed that breaking the sake barrel will bring good luck and prosperity.

ONE CEO Jeremy Nixon, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) Chairman Niam Chiang Meng, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Singapore Hiroshi Ishikawa, performed the Kagami-Biraki in happi coats – traditional Japanese coats worn during festivals and ceremonies. As part of the celebration, guests were then invited to a sake toast.

In his opening speech, ONE CEO Jeremy Nixon said, "I am honoured to welcome you all to our 5th anniversary celebration. It has been an incredible journey for ONE over the past five years. We have faced many challenges, but we have also achieved many successes. I am proud of what we have accomplished together."

MPA Chairman Niam Chiang Meng said, "Congratulations to ONE on this significant milestone. ONE has grown steadily over the years and is one of the largest liner operators in Singapore today, contributing in areas of maritime decarbonisation, innovation and digitalisation, and manpower development. We thank ONE for their vote of confidence in Singapore and look forward to our collaboration in the years to come.”

Ambassador of Japan to Singapore Hiroshi Ishikawa said, " I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Ocean Network Express on its 5th anniversary. ONE has played a vital role in the global economy, and I am confident that it will continue to do so in the years to come. Thank you for your continued contributions to Singapore and the world."

ONE was founded in April 2018 through the merger of three Japanese container shipping companies: MOL, NYK, and K Line. The company has a fleet of over 200 vessels, plying about 170 routes across more than 120 countries.

ONE has faced a number of challenges over the past five years, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the global supply chain disruptions. Despite these challenges, the company has continued to grow. As part of its efforts to become net zero by 2050, it is investing in new technologies and solutions to enhance its operation efficiency and sustainability. ONE is also expanding its network of services to better serve valued customers and reach out to new markets.

ONE’s strong track record of growth and innovation, positions it to play a significant role in the development of the global economy in years to come.
